Out of Control Ants!

Out of Control Ants!

We are well into the summer now and the ants are no longer swarming but they have now established a colony and that colony is currently attacking your house!! AHHHHH! Why is this happening? How can you stop it? What do you do?

Ants are a very social species. They all have their own jobs and work hard to make the colony in your house survive. The Queen is the mother and she make more ants from her brood. The brood grows up and become the female “worker” ants. Male ants come around when the queen breeds and will leave shortly after. An ant colony works like a factory. The older workers will go out to defend the nest and lay a pheromone trail to a food source so that they can feed the queen, young workers and brood. The younger workers take care of the inside of the nest, including taking care of the queen and the brood. Typical pavement ants have an average colony of 3000-4000 ants and multiple queens and they are taking over your kitchen in a very organized way! What do you do?

The first thing to do is protect your house. Making sure that all your gutters are cleaned out, there is no leaky water features, garbage needs to be kept away from your house. Wood piles are a wonderful place for an ant colony to thrive, you want to make sure that the wood is far away from the house. Check the outside of your house and fix cracks in foundation.  Putting screens on all windows or any holes on the outside of house. All of that work is done but you still have ants in the house! Now what? Time to call the professional. A professional can help with finding the source of the colony and safely eradicating it.
